Earlier this year we were approached by April of April Violet Photography, Jen of Jen Dederich Photography, + Shaunae of Shaunae Teske Photography, organizers of the Explore North Workshop to design and style a photoshoot for their upcoming photography workshop on the shores of Lake Superior. We love a change of scenery and the inspiration it brings us in our creative process so we happily jumped on board.
In April, we packed about twenty different outfits (Wisconsin weather is unpredictable in spring), our trusty rain boots and tons of snacks and made the six hour trek up north to the Lake Superior Barn to join the Explore North group! We loved watching each photographer learn from one another and capture the tablescape we created for them in their own unique way.
Today we’re excited to share some of the backstory behind our design for the workshop plus some pretty images caught throughout the weekend from all three of the ladies who organized the workshop! See if you can figure out who took which photos, April with her dark and moody style, Shaunae with her light and airy nature, and Jen with her rich colors and love of details. Want to see even more? Check out each of the girl’s recap posts on their blogs: Shaunae Pt. 1, Pt. 2, April Pt. 1, Pt. 2, Jen Pt. 1, Pt. 2.
To be honest there are times when coming up with inspiration for a photoshoot can be like pulling teeth, but not this time! When we thought about ‘up north’ we immediately started chatting about how bright and beautiful the stars are in the night sky and the phrase “Written in the Stars” came to mind. No city lights, just pure black sky with bright shiny stars and if you’re lucky, (which the attendees were!!) a swirl of beautiful Northern Lights. With the phrase “It was written in the stars that they should meet and fall in love” as our guide, we designed a stunning tablescape complete with cafe lights strung above and thoughtful details throughout. With constellations and cosmic touches in the stationery, cake and tablescape the entire shoot unfolded in the most beautiful way possible.
Photoshoots are always our very favorite time to take risks and try new ideas, especially when it comes to stationery. We designed a custom constellation with the first letters of the bride and groom’s names and then hand sewed it onto the invitation. That same constellation graced the top of the menu and the RSVP envelope.
While a hand sewn invitation may not be a realistic idea for your wedding, having your stationer design a custom logo or monogram like this custom constellation logo that ties into your theme and using it throughout your stationery is a wonderful way to personalize your day.
A whimsical yet refined floral centerpiece design by Saffron and Grey pulled the whole look together.
Cake and Cookie knocked it out of the park with a one of a kind marbled cake that perfectly complemented the table linen.
