In December we took a chance on an idea we had brewing in our minds for quite some time. We had always wanted to host a workshop during the holiday season that combined many of our popular workshop topics into one fun filled day. Today we’re sharing a look into how that idea came to be on a chilly + snowy Sunday last December at, Gather: A Holiday Workshop. The day even included a picturesque first snow of the season which made the day feel all the more festive! Special thanks to Laurelyn Savannah Photography for capturing the day + Mollica Film Co. for the fun video! Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to reveal the big news we’re sharing today!

The workshop experience
Guests at the workshop were greeted with a fun custom cocktail and personalized tea towel gift as they entered the event held in the beautiful event space Black Swan Milwaukee. We formatted the workshop to be a combination of four mini classes including apps+cocktails, stationery, watercolor lettering, + floral design along with a bonus tablescape design demo. For each mini class, we compiled a top notch team of experts for the day starting with Phi Kelnhofer of the food blog Sweet Phi. Phi walked our guests through tasty recipes for holiday appetizers and drinks including hearts of palm dip and the steps to curating a standout charcuterie board. Each guest received recipe cards for the apps and cocktails Phi demonstrated and they even got a can of hearts of palm to try the dip recipe at home!
How delicious does this charcuterie board look? Yum! Guests also go to try their hand at making sugared cranberry garnishes.Kate Kazlo, the owner + expert interior designer of one of Milwaukee’s best home goods stores, The Home Market, shared insider tips and tricks for how to construct a beautiful and meaningful tablescape for any special get together.
Up next, we showed guests the simple steps to hand tearing paper to create deckled edge place cards, menus and art prints.
After creating their place cards, our talented friend Angela, of Saffron Avenue, walked the group through the basics of watercolor lettering starting with how to make the proper strokes then moving on to letters of the alphabet. Each guest went home with all of the materials including an alphabet guide so they could keep practicing. Many even started writing out the names of their friends and family on the place cards to use over the holidays!
For the last mini class, Emily, the amazing florist and owner of Wood Violet, instructed the class on how to design a floral holiday centerpiece using pretty winter blooms like red and white tulips (we’re obsessed!) and foraged evergreens. The results were stunning and we loved how each guest’s came out differently. Our favorite part was when people (without being prompted) started heading outside to grab cute Instagram shots with the snow falling along the riverfront and their completed arrangement. There’s no shame in finding the perfect light! ONE OF A KIND EXPERIENCES
We are so grateful to the amazing local businesses we were able to highlight at this event and even more grateful to the number of guests who invested in this unique experience. Reading comments like the one below in our post-workshop surveys always puts a bright spot in our day. Each workshop we host is truly a one-of-a-kind experience and we LOVE that we have repeat guests to our workshops. It’s a true testament to the fact that no two workshops we host are ever the same.
“This is the second Mint & Lovely workshop that I have attended and I haven’t regretted either one in the slightest bit. I have left both events wanting to learn more and gain more experience from these ladies. I highly recommend any workshop they put on. You will leave wanting more as well!”
